My research focuses on modern Okinawan literature, identity politics and Japanese post-colonial literature (or, if you prefer, post-colonial literature written in Japanese.)

I completed my MA in Japanese Literature at SOAS, University of London, in 2010. My dissertation was a comparison of two short stories by the Okinawan writers, Matayoshi Eiki (b. 1947) and Medoruma Shun (b. 1960). At the moment, I am a research student at Waseda University, Tokyo, on a Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) scholarship.
